Summer 2019 – after Boulder 70.3

After I came home from Boulder, I did what any normal person would do…. I signed up for another half Ironman, Waco 70.3. This race was in October and only a few hours from Houston, Texas.

I decided to spend the next several months going to as many races and work on getting better and faster.

Placed 2nd

Honestly, I was having the time of my life. I really enjoyed the training process and the race was my celebration for all the hard work I was putting into my triathlon training.

One of my races I had to wake up at 3:00am, this was sylvan beach. It was a very hot day, I remember it being so hot they had volunteers spraying people with water hoses on the run course… the heat was pretty brutal that day.

Ice bath, perfect way to end any race!

I finally did it, September 2019 I placed first in my age group at a local tri.

The following weekend I went on to race at another local tri, and placed 2nd!

During the summer of 2019 I apparently over trained causing pain on my left side. At first I thought it was a side stitch, I found it extremely painful to run.

I spent a few months trying to figure out what the problem was without any luck. Finally, my chiropractor suggested I go see a hip specialist since I was getting worse.

It took me nearly a month to get into the Ironman Sports medicine doctor. This ended up being my lottery ticket, they did an mri that discovered I had iliopsoas bursitis on my left hip. What this means is I had fluid on my hip creating pain.

Within 2 weeks of my Waco 70.3 race, the doctor was able to do a procedure that aspirated the fluid off my hip. It was magic…. I immediately felt a huge difference and ran the next day.

Couple tips I learned, try not to over train. This is actually harder than it sounds. Strengthen your core, this stabilizes you body and keeps you strong and stay away from foods that cause inflammation. When your training for a race your body goes through a lot so treat it with care.
