At the stop light leaving the George R Brown from just completing my first half marathon I was unfortunately hit from behind by a distracted driver, moving my car into the intersection. I knew immediately something was wrong and I didn’t feel right. The next day I went to the ER discovering my back was really messed up.
Within a few days I received an MRI that showed l4 had a bulging disc. I spent the next several months in physical therapy and receiving traction. I was still able to ride my bike and practice swimming but running was put to a halt.
I knew I didn’t have much time and my goal was to finish the Galveston 70.3 Ironman. The PT doctor had me coming 4x’s a week to help speed up the healing process. I also started to incorporate cryo therapy into the mix.
Thankfully I was able to get to a place where I could tolerate the pain to start running and ultimately go on to race the Galveston 70.3 Ironman.
